about

This really is analog electronic music so if you have a dog ask him or her to leave the room. (Cats will leave of their own accord.) It ain't horribly loud but domestic animals are sometimes freaked by this kind of stuff. Humans should probably NOT listen to this on headphones.

Anyway, live in 1974 as in unedited, no double-tracking or overdubs. Just me and my EMS Synthi "A". I lacked a sequencer or keyboard, due to financial limitations, so the various built-in oscillators are "played" here the old fashioned way, interrupting their signals by rearranging tiny push-pin resistor thingies and turning dials. (See if you can find a picture of an EMS Synthi "A" to learn more.)

Recorded in my 10th Street apartment in NYC directly into a 4-track TEAC reel to reel. I had no mixing equipment in those days either. And I have no idea why I named it after James Coburn at the time, although I did run into him later in the lobby of the old Equitable Building on Hollywood and Vine where I worked a day job in the late 1970s (and where Kim Fowley and his wonderful lawyer Walter Hurst also had their offices.) Mr. Coburn was studying the building directory as I walked off an elevator and I must have reacted when I saw him because he gave me a big grin. I was too star-struck to say anything, of course.
